Introduction to The Light Bender

Rappers have their regular names and then they have their "stage name" their "Also Known As" their "pseudonym". this has been a tradition since the beginning and is a trend that has shifted from music into all forms of artistry. All of us artists are crazy and we don't have to explain our craziness to our fellow artist because to a certain extent we all understand each other. It's nothing new or exciting it's just a name I have adopted and given to myself. I'm not a musician I am a photographer and with this blog I aim to not only market myself  and my art. I'm going to go deep into detail about who I am and my journey as The Light Bender.

The year is 2017, close to the end of the year. I'm not clued up with the specifics like exact dates but that doesn't matter. I'm attending an opening ceremony for BMW in Newtown Johannesburg  where I was hired to cover the nights photography and before this night it was weighing heavy on my mind that I need to find a suitable nickname for myself something that relates to photography of course.

Above are just 2 photos of the M logo easy to associate with the BMW brand as this logo carries a lot of history for the company, anyway ...

Someone once said that "Photography is just painting except we only painting with light", someone famous? I cant remember ... google it LoL

Everything was going according to how I planned it, I was getting all my shots, all the right angles and at the correct light setting. Then I see candles on a table and I tell myself I have to get a really creative shot of this and all of a sudden i'm standing with my camera on one spot testing different light settings struggling to get the "perfect" shot and I remember the above quote about painting with light and I start thinking about the last air bender and then it hit me that like all other natural elements light is also natural and I was literally bending and twisting with the light ... 

After this low ISO, fast shutter release and high aperture photo I realized that like The Last Air Bender I am The First Light Bender and i'm pretty sure there will be more to follow in my footsteps.

Before that I was and still am Jared M'Belle from Westbury, Johannesburg who has a dream of one day making it out and inspiring the neighborhood.
